J LANE’s music career began in 2005 as co-founder and lead vocalist for The J LANE Band. The Kinston based J LANE Band enjoyed success in eastern North Carolina as a cover band, focusing on alternative and classic rock staples with a high energy performance that is still well remembered by local fans.
In 2006, with a new focus on original material, he founded Fire for Effect, a band who would go on to record a well-received self-titled EP in 2007 before disbanding in 2008.
Re-emerging as a solo artist in 2012, J LANE would co-write and record Home, his first single since disbanding Fire for Effect. Although Home was recorded in the tradition of American roots-rock, it would go on to have cross-over country success on 94.7 WQDR’s Local Throwdown broadcast.
Since 2013, J LANE has been entertaining audiences all over his home state as a solo acoustic act. On stages from Greensboro to Morehead City, he has performed alongside of such artists as North Carolina’s own Parmalee, southern rock legend Jimmie Van Zant and, most recently, guitarist and founding member of Shinedown, Jasin Todd.
2018 and 2019 saw J LANE renew his focus on writing and producing original material. Writing songs inspired by 5 years of travel and performance, he is currently recording songs for his first full-length album. Early tracks for this album, which he describes as “new southern rock,” chart a new direction for J LANE while maintaining the high standards in songwriting that his fans have come to know and love.
J LANE has also recently received his first nomination for a music industry award. In early May, J LANE received a Carolina Music Awards nomination in the Best Rock Male category. The Carolina Music Awards recognizes outstanding performers from both North and South Carolina through fan-driven nominations and industry peer voting. The annual ceremony will be held this year in Raleigh, North Carolina on August 17th.
